UKIP choose their new man

A BUSINESSMAN has been named as the UKIP candidate for the Redditch Parliamentary seat at next year’s General Election.

Peter Jewell, also a well-known sportsman and director of Worcestershire County Cricket Club, finally agreed to stand after months of courting by the party’s leader Nigel Farage.

Mr Jewell, who is a director of numerous companies including the Lexion group which focuses on management consultancy, said: “I have become totally disillusioned with politics. I started to shout at the television and realised the only way was to do something about it.

“I had a private lunch in London with Nigel Farage and I was convinced that UKIP was the party for me and offered my help, never expecting to stand for Parliament.

“I said I would only stand for Redditch as the town of my birth; it is a great town with the most beautiful countryside.

“I want to give the town back to the people and create a vibrant community, help businesses to prosper, therefore create skilled jobs, better education and sort out the issues with the Alexandra Hospital.”

So far Mr Jewell will be up against sitting MP Karen Lumley for the Conservatives and Rebecca Blake who is Labour’s Parliamentary candidate.
