Vehicles seized as part of crackdown

VEHICLES with no insurance were seized as part of a crackdown on illegal motoring.

The Safer Roads Partnership worked with West Mercia and Warwickshire Police and the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) during the three day operation last weekend at Hopwood Services off the M42.

Specialist units involving motorcycle police, speed enforcement officers, the Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) team and DVSA officers were involved.

The results of the operation are still being analysed but those involved say a number of offences were dealt with including speeding, drivers with no insurance or MOT and mechanical defects on HGVs such as tyres and lights.

Sgt Stuart Allen, from the Operational Policing Unit at Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police, said: “Joint agency operations such as this one provide a highly visible deterrent to motorists who believe they can use the roads illegally and get away with it. We will continue to work with our partners to improve road safety and reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on our roads.”

Anna Higgins, communications manager for the Safer Roads Partnership, added: “It is encouraging, however, that the majority of motorists were using the roads in the correct manner, abiding by the law and their vehicles were in a good, roadworthy condition.”
