Weeks of rail disruption set to start

Redditch Editorial 2nd Jul, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

RAIL users are being reminded there will be no trains between Barnt Green and Redditch for eight weeks.

From Sunday (July 6) to August 3 anyone wanting to travel to and from the town by railway will have to use a replacement bus service instead.

The disruption is to allow a £24.5million project to upgrade the route and create a new section of track between Redditch and Alvechurch as well as an extra platform at Alvechurch, a new footbridge, waiting shelter, CCTV and lifts.

Staff from London Midland are advising passengers to add an extra 30 minutes to their usual travel time because of bus replacements.

Anyone travelling from Birmingham to either Alvechurch or Redditch will need to leave the train at Longbridge and join the replacement bus services there.

The bus route will run from Redditch railway station, to the Red Lion pub in Alvechurch and then Barnt Green railway station’s car park.

Passengers who travel between Barnt Green and Birmingham will not be affected by the line closure.

Mark Goodall, London Midland’s head of Cross City services said: “I apologise to passengers for the temporary disruption they will face.

“The great news is that there are clear benefits for Cross City passengers in the future, with three trains per hour from December instead of the current two.”
