Win your chance to flag off tour riders in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 1st May, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

DO YOU know someone special who might enjoy a moment in the limelight?

The Redditch Standard has joined with the Pearl Izumi Tour Series and World Class Worcestershire in the hunt for a deserving person to send the riders on their way when town centre cycle racing comes speeding into Redditch on Thursday, May 26.

Some of the world’s best cyclists will be taking part in the run-up to the Olympic Games in Rio and the TV cameras from ITV4 will be there to record it all in what will be the biggest showcase of the town in the Redditch calendar.

Not only that but pictures of the Redditch races, Round Two of the women’s Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series and Round Four of the men’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series, will be beamed around the world.

Not only will the winner have the honour of sending the racers off on their way but they’ll also get two passes to the VIP hospitality tent as well.

The Tour Series is run in ten venues across England, Scotland and the Isle of Man throughout May and June and has in the past featured Olympic Gold medallists like Ed Clancy, Laura Trott (last year’s winner of the Redditch round), Dani King, and multi-gold medal winner Dame Sarah Storey.

There will even be a team supported by Bradley Wiggins, the current world record holder for the Hour and the first Briton ever to win the Tour de France.

Redditch is the pros’ favourite circuit as it features a tight chicane that really test handling skills at the top of Prospect Hill followed by a nerveless left hander into Clive Road before the climb up Hewell Road followed by the lung-busting assault up Unicorn Hill – so it really separates the contenders from the also-rans.

A packed programme of events will keep the fans entertained as the atmosphere builds towards our winner’s big moment, with events on in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre’s WorcesterS quare from 11am, an opening celebration at 2pm, school races, music and entertainment, local business races and the Reddi Hot Lap for the wannabes at 4.30pm.

It will then be time for our winner’s moment in spotlight with the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Ladies Race at 6pm followed by the Pearl Izumi Tour Series Mens Race at 7.30pm.

To enter our competition, simply write in and tell us why you think that special someone should be chosen to be our official starter of the 2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series races for Redditch.

The closing date is Monday, May 9 and the editor’s decision is final.
