Winyates Centre’s internet cafe gets logged on

Redditch Editorial 5th Dec, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A NEW Internet café was officially opened in Winyates Centre yesterday.

Councillor Yvonne Smith (Lab, Winyates) cut the ribbon on The Link, a new place for people to go and learn about the world wide web, on Thursday (December 3). The café has been funded through County Councillors Joe Baker and Peter Bridle along with Worcestershire County Council’s Community Learning Trust.

A new Credit Union operated by 6Towns will also be there alongside money and other advice services.

In addition there will be rooms to hire as well as a hot desk office for community groups and business to use.

Liz Williams, community enterprise coordinator and co-director of REACH CIC, said: “The opening of The Link as a key hub for residents in the east of the town, is the result of the demand from the local communities, where up to 40 per cent of residents have no access to the Internet, others have no knowledge and want to learn how to access the services they need.”
