POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an assault in Redditch.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 19 between 6pm and 9pm when the victim, a girl in her late teens, and the suspect who is known to her, were walking from Batchley to Old Forge Drive.

It is believed the suspect pushed the victim into a thorn bush, and then pulled at her clothing as she tried to walk away. He then pinned her against a fence near Old Forge Drive and punched her repeatedly to her face, arms and body.

The prolonged assault continued before the victim saw a car pull up onto a nearby car park and then pull away.

A 24 year-old man from Redditch has been arrested in connection with the incident, and released on bail until Wednesday, June 3, whilst further enquiries are carried out.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 714 of April 19.
