A SCHEME to spice up the county’s curry houses and takeaways by Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) has received national recognition.
The programme, which aims to help local eateries improve their food composition, food safety and health and safety scooped the top ‘Innovation’ award at the Better Business for All Awards in London last week.
The award celebrated WRS’s Asian Seminar Programme, which has brought over 60 Worcestershire restaurant businesses together in a series of specialised seminars held across the county.
Following the programme’s success, the Bangladesh Caterers Association UK and the Guild of Bangladeshi Restaurateurs have made WRS their ‘Primary Authority’ nationwide which sees WRS become the ‘go-to’ authority for some 30,000 business members nationwide.
Councillor Bronwen Behan, chair of the WRS Joint Committee, said: “We’re delighted to receive this award which comes after a lot of hard work by our officers.
“Helping businesses to thrive while ensuring public safety is our main goal as regulators and that’s why we try to positively support businesses in this way.
“I am sure that as a result we will see improvements in the way these businesses operate, which can only help the local economy to grow.”
