Alvechurch announce pre-season friendlies

ALVECHURCH will welcome Halesowen Town, Sutton Coldfield Town and Stourbridge to Lye Meadow in the build-up to the 2016/17 season.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier sides will provide home friendlies to the Churchmen among a list of eight pre-season games.

Halesowen head to Lye Meadow on Tuesday, July 26, with Sutton following them on Saturday, July 30.

Stourbridge, who were pipped to a play-off place in April, provide the last opponents on Monday, August 1 before Alvechurch kick off the Midland Premier season the following Saturday.




Ian Long’s men begin their friendly programme with a trip to West Midlands League Premier side Cradley Town on Thursday, July 14.

There will also be trips to Lichfield City, Tipton Town and Wolves Sporting, as well as Blackpool side Squires Gate.

Meanwhile, Church have swooped to sign Tom Turton from Sutton Coldfield. Turton is a playmaking midfielder with excellent ability who started his career at West Brom before joining Stourbridge.

Alvechurch boss Ian Long said: “He had a slightly injury-hit season last time out, but finished the season well and we’re confident he can take that into the new season and be an influential player for us.”
