Black Horse edged out in Bedfordshire

BLACK Horse took an early lead through Brendan Hicks in their FA Sunday Cup tie in Bedfordshire against Crawley Green, but the hosts hit back to secure a 2-1 victory.

Hicks’ 12th minute strike was cancelled out in first half stoppage time and the second half was equally close, with end to end play, but it was the home side who took the lead on 80 minutes and managed to hold on despite a late barrage from the visitors.

In Division One of the Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination, leaders Millfield Rovers saw their unbeaten run ended by a 5-4 defeat at Dagnell End Rovers.

The visitors were coasting at 2-0 up but the game turned on its head with an inspired change in formation as the home side scored five goals in 20 minutes.

However, back came Millfield and they reduced the deficit to 5-4 with just five minutes remaining, leaving the players and spectators with a tense last few minutes, but the hosts hung on to win.

CBH Fasteners defeated Beoley Village 5-0 in the division’s other game that beat the weather, with Alistair Nash scoring twice.

Sporting Club Redditch’s Shaun Maynard took full advantage of Rubery Legends’ defence being in the Christmas spirit to bag a staggering ten goals as the home side recorded their seventh straight league win with a 17-0 success on home soil, as Ryan Field also scored a hat-trick in this Division Two fixture.

The league programme takes a welcome break over the festive party season, but will return full steam ahead on January 4.
