BIRCHENSALE Middle School youngsters took the sportshall athletics events by storm at the Worcestershire Winter School Games to help the Redditch district squad to victory.

Following on from becoming Redditch district winners, four teams from the Bridley Moor Road school comprising of 46 pupils from years five, six, seven and eight attended the games, which were held across a range of University of Worcester sites.

The quartet of Birchensale teams – year five/six girls, year five/six boys, year seven girls and year eight boys – were all victorious and played a huge part in the Redditch district’s overall victory.

Paul Homer, sports co-ordinator at Birchensale, said: “Each pupil showed real commitment and enthusiasm and competed well in their individual events.

“This year the results were outstanding. All four teams who competed at the county finals finished champions in their age groups, resulting in 46 gold medals being taken home by Birchensale pupils.

“I am extremely proud of all of the pupils who took part in this event. They trained hard and it is good to see their commitment and hard work has paid off.

“We had more pupils than any other school at the games and everyone came away with gold, which is a brilliant result.

These are the sort of days that make teaching such a worthwhile job!”
