REDDITCH boxer Carl Dickens is aiming to prove he is on track for a title bout by claiming victory against his first-ever international opponent.

The middleweight, from Winyates, faces Polish fighter Robert Studzinski tomorrow (Saturday) among the bill at Villa Park’s Holte Suite.

For the Villa fan, it will be another special night, especially with around 80 fans backing him from Redditch, but the goal is to produce an impressive victory on the road to challenge for a champions belt.

“As a Villa fan, it’s always a buzz to fight at Villa Park. I go along to games so it’s a home from home,” said Dickens.

“I’m looking forward to it, I feel good and I’ve had some of my best sparring ever.

“It’s an important fight for me because it’s a stepping stone towards fighting for a British Masters title.”

Studzinski will be no pushover. He has yet to be stopped but Dickens feels he is in the best condition he has ever been.

He has been honing his skills with tough sparring sessions against British Masters champion Mike Byles and Midlands title-holder Craig Cunningham at the Pro Gym in Small Heath, Birmingham.

“He’s a tough, aggressive opponent, I’ve seen his fights and it will take a lot to knock him over,” said Dickens. “I like to pressure my opponent, take the fight to them and I think he will suit my style.”

“I’m confident I will be the winner – it’s not if I win but how I win.”
