CHURCH Hill secured an impressive 2-1 victory at Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination Premier Division leaders Austin Ex-Apprentices on Sunday.

In a tense and passionate game in which the visitors’ goalkeeper performed a starring role, the game was decided in the 85th minute when Matt Wilkes slotted home a breakaway goal to give Church Hill the points and leave them sitting second in the table, behind Austin on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Adam Crombie scored twice as Hizza United defeated Rubery Bridge 3-1.

In Division One, Rocklands became the fifth team to head the table already this season after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Beoley Village.

There was drama elsewhere as goalkeeper Dave Anson scored an 85-yarder for Millfield Rovers in their 9-2 win against Alvechurch Sunday. Acting quickly to come off his line to intercept an Alvechurch attack, his clearance cleared the field and sailed into the net.

Rovers had shaded the first half 3-2 before turning in a fine second half performance with six goals.

Lodge Park RA were leading by two first half Terry Nolan goals at home to Dagnell End Rovers but, after being reduced to ten men, the Daggers took control to win the game 3-2.

Jamie Keyte scored twice as Mayfly won for the second week in a row – this time a 3-1 success over Alcester Town.

In the WFA Junior Cup, CBH Fasteners led three times before going down 4-3 at Stourport-based Wilden Village.

It was business as usual in Division Two as leaders OKH Sporting Dynamo made it seven wins out of seven in the league with a 5-1 win at Frankley Athletic, but Abbeydale were the division’s top scorers as they defeated VKL United 11-0.

Lee Bourke was the league’s top individual scorer of the week as he netted four times in Winyates Wanderers’ 8-1 victory over Redditch Cross which moved them into second place.

Sporting Club Redditch came from a goal down to defeat Evesham United 2-1 and David Martin and Stuart Byng both scored twice for Rubery Legends and New Woodland Cottage respectively as they shared the points in a 3-3 draw.

This coming Sunday sees another heavyweight Premier Division clash as leaders Austin Ex-Apprentices host third placed Black Horse, who still boast a 100 per cent record after three games.
