Church to ring the changes in bid to reach Urn final

IAN LONG is likely to make ten changes to the line-up but that will not diminish his determination to see Alvechurch reach the Worcestershire Senior Urn final tonight (Thursday).

Facing a third fixture in six days, the Church manager said he would use the full extent of his squad for tonight’s Urn semi-final at home to Highgate United.

The winners will play Bromsgrove Sporting in the final at Evesham United.

Alvechurch are expected to welcome back Nick Wright and Dave Bellis, whose absence was sorely missed in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at Stourport, to face their Midland League Premier Division rivals.

Goalkeeper Matt Sargeant, Danny Ashton, Karl Edwards, Luke Paskin and Connor Deards, who had a run-out on Tuesday after an ankle injury, are all set to feature.

Long said: “There will be changes because we have had so many games, but we’ve got the opportunity to get to a final and bank a showpiece game, something to look forward to at the end of the season.”

Highgate did Alvechurch a favour in their league title quest on Tuesday when they claimed a 2-0 win at leaders Hereford.

Long has plenty of respect for the visitors, especially dangerman Lei Brown, who Alvechurch had been keen to sign in the summer.

“Lei’s a quality player and I did try to sign him in the summer but he felt a lot of loyalty to Highgate and I can respect that,” added Long.
