Davis Cup Legacy inspires Redditch youngsters

THE DAVIS Cup Legacy continues to be a success at Redditch HDA Tennis Club which has been offering 30 new players aged five to eight the opportunity to take part in a free six-week coaching course.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) selected 1,000 coaches from around Great Britain to run a programme at their local club to get 10,000 more children playing the sport after the success Great Britain had in winning the Davis Cup last year.

The initiative was so popular at the Redditch club that the programme was increased from one course to three, offering 30 children the chance to play. All players also receive their own free tennis racket at the end of the course.

Head coach Tony Ravenscroft said: “The Davis Cup Legacy is an excellent initiative set up and funded by the LTA.

“The children have been loving the sessions. It’s a great way to introduce them to tennis and a good opportunity to show families what’s on offer for all ages and abilities at the club.”

The club is currently building two brand new tennis courts which will be ready shortly after Wimbledon finishes, meaning it will then have six courts which will give new players and existing players more opportunities to play tennis.

Redditch HDA offers social and competitive tennis for all ages and abilities all year round, as well as a busy summer programme of activities.
