Dews treble leads Rovers to cup win

Redditch Editorial 8th Sep, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A HAT-TRICK from the prolific Neil Dews guided Millfield Rovers to a 4-2 victory over Alvechurch Sunday in the Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination’s BRT Terry Cup.

The only upset of the day saw CBH Fasteners beat Premier Division outfit Rubery Bridge 2-1 as Sean Parrish scored the goals for the home side.

The game of the day saw Dagnell End Rovers take on Division Two’s Abbeydale and the match ended 2-2 at 90 minutes. The Division One side had to come from a goal down in extra time to lead with minutes to go, only for Abbeydale to equalise and make it 4-4 late on.

With penalty kicks entering sudden death, Kevin Smith put his spot kick away and home keeper Matt Hemming became the hero by saving the final penalty as Rovers prevailed 4-3 on spot kicks.

Dylan Nolan scored twice in a 5-3 victory as Lodge Park RA won through to round two at home to New Woodland Cottage and a Brett Skinner hat-trick helped Translift Bendi avoid the potential banana skin of Division Two’s form side Queens Head with a 4-0 victory.

There were two games in the Premier Division and Andy Nicol continued his fine goalscoring form with four more for leaders Austin Ex-Apprentices in a 7-1 victory over Wychbold RBL and Mark Wilkes scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for second placed Church Hill over South Redditch.

This coming Sunday (10.30am) sees the top two in the Premier Division clash in the BSA Cup at Studley Sports & Social Club.
