REDDITCH-based Jump Rope UK members have enjoyed an action-packed time recently as they competed in two prestigious events as the British Speed Championships were immediately followed by the National Jump Rope Festival.
This year’s British Speed Championships were held at Henley-in-Arden sports centre and boasted its largest entry list to date with competitors from across the UK.
Jump Rope UK were represented as an impressive 25 members competed – some for the first time – and many achieved personal best performances which resulted in gold, silver and bronze medals being won.
One of Jump Rope UK’s senior coaches Rachael Dale is currently filming with Nickelodeon as part of the Fruit Shoot Skills Crew and they joined the championships for the day to film Rachael following and interviewing two of the club’s younger members Caitlin Speirs and Callam Rainey.
Unfazed by the cameras, the duo did an amazing job and both achieved personal bests and gold medals in their events.
Then followed the National Jump Rope UK Festival 2014 – organised by Rachael of Jump Rope UK – which saw 130 spectators and 130 skippers from across the UK participate in a day of celebrating skipping.
It was held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire and began with a demonstration gala in which every team performed a two to five-minute routine of their best skills, followed by team and group photographs in the beautiful grounds of the sports facility.
In the afternoon there was a three-hour workshop ran by Rachael, who had a team of 13 other staff to teach throughout the afternoon from clubs from London, Redditch and Scotland.
Jump Rope UK director Sue Dale said: “It was the biggest turnout so far and was a fantastic day with lots of support from all the families and coaches.”
