ALCESTER Town boss James Robbins is relishing Sunday’s (2pm) home clash against Coventrians as his side look to secure a fourth successive Midland League Division Three victory.
Town have scored a superb 20 goals in their last three league encounters and, having been frustrated by the postponement of Saturday’s visit to Shipston Excelsior, Robbins says his side are raring to go as they seek revenge on a Coventrians side who defeated Alcester 1-0 on home soil in late October.
“I am looking forward to the game. We go into it in good form and I am confident we can put on a performance and gain a result to push us further up the table, as long as we apply ourselves as we have done the last few weeks,” said Robbins.
“Although disappointing at the time, the Shipston postponement has given two or three players carrying knocks time to recover and they will be back in contention for Sunday’s game.
“We have a strong squad now, competition for places, players fighting for shirts and long may that continue.
“We owe Coventrians one, having lost 1-0 to them away from home back in October, a game in which we were on top for large periods.
“Unfortunately for us, we lacked quality in the final third that day and conceded a last minute goal to come away empty-handed.
“It was a bitter pill to swallow at the time, but we have the chance to put that right this weekend. That seems strange considering we have scored 20 goals in our last three games, but I believe we are a different animal now and we will be looking to take the game to them on Sunday.
“It will of course be our final game of the year and it would be nice to finish off with a win and the three points.
“We have won five of our last seven league games, the last three on the bounce and to add to that and make it four into the new year would be very pleasing.
“I’m expecting a tough game though. Coventrians played some decent stuff in patches and we will have to be on our game to continue that run.”
Town can welcome back Kieran Downey following his three-game suspension, whilst Adam Trinder, who suffered a bruised foot and swollen ankle against AFC Solihull in Town’s last game, should be fit.
Richard Eastell is nearing a return following his hamstring injury and will also hope to be involved.
