Impressive showings by B&R veterans

BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club’s men were edged into second place by just a single point by victorious Worcester AC in the latest Midland Veterans Track & Field League meeting at the Dell Stadium in Brierley Hill.

Top B&R performances on the night included Mike Neylon who was second in the over 50 200m with 27.2, behind Andy List of Stratford in 27.0.

Jason Cashmore was also second in the over 40 200m, being beaten by Worcester’s Stephen Buttler, whilst Martin Aspley-Davis won the over 35 200m.

B&R team manager Calvin Scoltock won the over 40 800m and also went on to win the over 35 2km walk.




James Adie – competing for the first time in the veterans league having just turned 35 – won the over 35 3,000m with a new over 35 club record of 9:43.5.

Clive Rose won the over 60 3,000m for B&R and Clive Brown was second in the over 60 triple jump, setting a new over 65 club record of 6.46m.


Stephen Brooks finished second in the over 40 high jump with a best jump of 1.45m.

Neylon won the over 50 long jump as he set a new over 50 club record of 4.37m.

The highlight of the men’s competition was the last event of the evening, the 4x400m relay. Worcester’s new member Richard Houchin took the baton for them with a clear lead over B&R in second place.

Aspley-Davis ran a stunning final leg for B&R but was still behind Houchin with 2m to go, however he edged ahead of Houchin on the finish line to take the win, with both teams recording the same time of 3:52.6.

B&R maintain first place in the division due to winning the first fixture by three points.

In the women’s competition, again Worcester were first on the day, with B&R second.

New club member Peggy Blunn competed for B&R in the over 70 200m and finished second behind Worcester’s Iris Holder.

Deborah Ricci was also second in the over 40 200m behind Stratford’s Paula Williams.

Joanne Frost – returning from an injury – won the over 35 200m in a time 27.3, with Cat Goulder-Davis from Worcester two seconds behind in second place.

Becky Selvey was second in the over 40 800m behind Midland Masters’ Audrey Wilson.

Newcomer to the veterans league Katy Anderson easily won the over 35 3,000m for B&R in a time of 11:16.9, with her nearest rival half a lap behind.

Rita Brownlie was second in the over 60 javelin and Polly Gerner was also second for B&R in the over 50 long jump.

Julie Wakelam was second for B&R in the over 40 discus, whilst the B&R women were clear winners in the 4x400m relay.
