Keating nets the honours in Winter League contest

REDDITCH angler Tom Keating easily took maximum points from the fifth of the ten-contest Alvechurch Fisheries Winter League series on the Horseshoe Lake.

Fishing off peg five on Saturday, Keating alternated pole and maggot to net a number of carp up to 10lb and switched to the straight lead for a silver fish net of 50lb to weigh 70.1.

Second placed Danny Tresigne (Colmic) fished the waggler and maggot tactics up to the rushes for his mixed bag of carp and silvers for 58.5 from peg 35.

Warren Beach on peg eight fished similar tactics out in front for his mixed bag of 52.5 to finish third and, fishing straight lead up to the rushes off peg 28, fourth placed Steve Bellion netted five carp to weigh 51.8.




Off peg six fifth placed Phil Barron fished similar tactics out in front for his mixed bag of carp and silvers whilst Malcolm Brown on peg ten fished waggler and maggot out in front for his mixed net of 46.0 to complete the top six.

TOP rod in last Thursday’s Open was newly-sponsored Colmic angler Rob Gangley who drew peg 13 and fished pole and maggot over a number of swims to net a few carp up to 8lb and a silver fish net of barbel to 7lb, stockies and silvers for his match-winning weight of 61.1.


Second placed Paul Gartshore fished similar tactics at 13m and late down the margins for his mixed bag of 56.4 from peg 24.

Off peg 32 Les Ayres fished the bomb and maggot for his mixed bag of silvers boosted by a carp of 12lb for 41.11 to secure third place.

Fourth placed Steve Bowen on peg 16 on the Canal Lake fished pole and maggot to the rushes for his mixed net of 39.8.

Kevin Saxelby on peg three adapted straight lead and maggot tactics out in front to weigh a mixed bag of silvers for a 39.2 weigh which clinched fifth place, whilst sixth was Scott Smith (Smithy’s Angling Centre) on peg 24 on the Canal Lake as he fished long pole and maggot up to the island for his mixed bag of 35.7.
