Kingfishers aiming to get back on track

SKIPPER Greg Chinn is looking for a big response from his Redditch Entaco team as they head into tomorrow’s crucial Worcestershire League Division Two home fixture against Coombs Wood.

Having suffered successive defeats against local rivals Feckenham and then Chaddesley Corbett, the table-topping Kingfishers have seen their lead at the top of the table reduced to just ten points.

Saturday’s visit to second placed Chaddesley ended in a four-wicket defeat thanks to an unbeaten 98 from Ibrahim Jiva.

Batting first, Redditch struggled early on and were reduced to 32-3 but recovered with a fourth-wicket partnership of 144 between Tom Field (77) and Jack Roberson (63).

Both then departed in quick succession as the Kingfishers finished on 224-9 off their 50 overs.

Chaddesley responded in cavalier style to take control of the game and, although Redditch bounced back with two wickets apiece from Waqas Ali and Noman Choudry, Jiva stood firm and saw Chaddesley home with more than five overs to spare.

The 2nds returned to winning ways in Division One 2nd XI with an 83-run victory against visitors Bewdley.

Skipper Geoff Eley led the way with 115 and Naseek Hussain made 99 as Redditch piled up 321-7 off their 50 overs.

In reply, a fine 73 from Sam Beasley kept Bewdley in the hunt but they were eventually dismissed for 238 as Kevin Lokenath and Andy Elleray took three wickets apiece.

On Saturday the third placed 2nds visit Coombs Wood.

The over 45s reached their second successive final by beating hosts Rushwick by six wickets in an entertaining game on Sunday.

The home side were restricted to 183-5 off 35 overs as Rob Pegg took 2-23 off seven overs.

In reply, Redditch dominated from ball one as Nick Little made 51 off just 44 balls, Nev Mason 38 and Eley 36 to see the Kingfishers home with six overs to spare.

Redditch will play either Bewdley or Pershore in the final on Sunday, September 4 at Bromsgrove CC.
