Kingfishers still flying high after hard fought winning draw at Feckenham

REDDITCH ENTACO recovered from a poor start to earn a winning draw in an intriguing Worcestershire League Division Two derby at Feckenham on Saturday.

Both sides went into the match in good form, with the Kingfishers top of the pile having won their opening three fixtures, and the pair are now the only unbeaten sides in the division.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bat but, having reached 41-0, the wheels came off as Tom Coulson took four quickfire wickets.

However, Russell Southwick (46) stood firm and his partnership of 77 with Tom Phelan (62) steered the visitors out of choppy waters.

Skipper Greg Chinn struck a typically rapid 46 off just 34 balls and Redditch had a decent 229 all out to defend despite Coulson ending with 7-73 off 14.5 overs as the visitors were dismissed in the 46th over.

There were also two wickets for Matt Henning who was to prove key for the hosts as they staved off defeat in reply.

At 49-4 Feckenham were in all sorts of trouble despite the best efforts of opener Luke Jackson (41), but Henning (65no off 99 balls) was well supported by the tail who dug in to frustrate Redditch, for whom paceman Waqas Ali (3-58), Noman Choudry (2-22) and Southwick (2-12) all bowled well.

Sixth placed Feckenham, who collected eight points, visit third placed Worcester Dominies and Guild on Saturday whilst Redditch, who host Chaddesley Corbett on Saturday, earned 16 points and are 27 points clear at the top.

ALVECHURCH & HOPWOOD suffered a thumping 221-run loss at Lye in the same division. The Birmingham Road side will bid to secure their first win of the season at home to Enville on Saturday.
