Lady luck deserts White Hart bowlers

WHITE Hart will surely not have such an unfortunate spell during the rest of the crown green bowls league season having suffered across a five-day period from last Wednesday to Sunday.

They failed to secure a victory, but lost out by under ten shots in four of their matches.

In Heart of England Division Two, the Redditch club’s A team lost 142-137 at home to Hockey Heath A but had three winners – Ray Richards (21-14), Paul Matthews (21-7) and Mike Estell (21-16).

The team currently lie in sixth place behind leaders Moseley CC A.

The B team went down 139-133 at Warstock with Gill Croft (21-20), Rob Faulks (21-5) and captain Norman Batchelor (21-9) scoring points for the visitors, who occupy fourth position in Division Three, 30 points behind leaders Olton Tavern A.

In the over 60s leagues, White Hart A were soundly beaten 126-58 at Kings Norton A in Division One and failed to produce a winning card, although Ken Brown and Ian Humphreys managed double-figure scores.

The B team were involved in a much closer affair at home to leaders Wootton Hall A in Division Three which saw them narrowly defeated 110-104.

Hart’s three winners were Mick Perrins (21-8), Sheila Humphreys (21-20) and captain Brian Chatterley (21-19) and they now sit fourth.

In Northfield & District League Division Two, White Hart A lost 142-123 at home to leaders The Maggies and are now sixth. Ian Humphreys (21-5), Mike Estell (21-12) and recent addition to the first time Tim Hollingshead (21-14) produced winning cards.

The B team were also beaten 150-101 at Colebrook B where they had just two winners – Tom Hawkes (21-13) and Gill Croft (21-11). The team are still second in Division Four though and well in the promotion hunt, just six points behind Triplex B.

In the Warwick & Worcester League, White Hart lost 222-184 at fellow Premier Division Five strugglers Yardley Wood Social and had just three winners from the 12 ties – Mike Estell (21-16), Mick Perrins (21-9) and Stan Pritchard (21-8) – although Stuart Rice and Ian Humphreys both went close.

White Hart have slipped to the foot of the table so a win in this week’s reverse fixture was vital as the Standard went to press.

In the Yardley Wood Super League, White Hart were beaten 156-119 at Hall Green B where they could produce just two winners – Tim Hollingshead (21-10) and first-season player Denis Turner (21-20) – who gained his first win for the club.

John Bridger, captain Gill Croft and Neil Laxton were all only narrowly defeated and Hart are still bottom of Division Three.

In SW Birmingham Tuesday League Division One, White Hart A were predictably second best at leaders Moseley A, but the B team enhanced their lead at the top of Division Four with a 121-83 home win over Weoley Castle WMC A.

They had five winners – Rob Faulks 21-4, Kirk Wright 21-8, Mick Perrins 21-14, Tom Hawkes 21-17 and Sue Sugden 21-19.

White Hart’s A team have reached the last eight of SW Birmingham Cup after an excellent 120-95 win over Weoley Hill A at Hall Green.
