TALENTED Redditch gymnast Leah Paice claimed an individual gold medal when she competed in her first regional competition.

The seven-year-old was part of the Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club team which took part in the George Finney West Midlands Floor and Vault gymnastics competition at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke.

Leah performed two outstanding vaults followed by an excellent floor routine to secure the individual gold medal in the under nine beginners girls’ section out of 100 young gymnasts from across the West Midlands.

Leah’s team also topped the pile as they saw off competition from 18 other teams in the under nine beginners girls’ category.

Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club features gymnasts from across Worcestershire, one of whom is St Bede’s Catholic Middle School’s Oscar Rees who won individual and team gold in the under 11 beginners boys’ and beginners mixed categories respectively.

Andrea Paice, head coach and mother of Leah, said: “Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club had a fantastic day. All gymnasts worked extremely hard and I am very proud.

“I am also very proud of my daughter Leah on her achievement with her gold medal.”
