BARRY Maskell was victorious when 17 anglers competed in Sunday’s Needles AC Christmas Fur & Feather match on the River Alne at Great Alne.

Maskell topped the scales with 7lb 4oz, second was Bob Brazil (3lb 11oz), third Glyn Blewett (2lb 12oz), fourth Pete Lewis (2lb 8oz) and fifth Ian Owen (2lb 3oz).

DANNY Tresigne took first place at Alvechurch Fisheries Thursday Open.

After drawing road peg 36, the Colmic angler was able to target the shelter offered by the road side and the aerator with pole and pellet to regularly land carp up to 8lbs. Switching to waggler up to the island to boost his total weight with stockies and barbel to weigh 74.14.

Les Ayres (peg 30) was second after fishing bomb and maggot tactics up to the rushes for carp and silvers to total 48.5.

Phil Evans (peg 7) fished similar tactics up to the island for his mixed bag of silvers for 42.6 and third place.

In fourth spot, Warren Beach (peg 24) alternated pole and maggot at 11mts and waggler up to the aerator for his mixed bag of 37.12.

Paul Gartshore (peg 32) fished pole and maggot tactics out in front for his mixed bag 33.5, ahead of Pete Mace (peg 11) who had similar tactics for his weight of silvers at 27.10.

RESULTS: 1st Danny Tresigne (Colmic) peg 36 – 75.14 2nd Les Ayres peg 30 – 48.15 3rd Phil Evans peg 7 – 42.6 4th Warren Beach peg 24 – 37.12.

LES Ayres led the way to win the Saturday Open, with 18 fishing at Horseshoe Lake.

With the worst weather conditions gusting winds and blustery rain left most of the anglers opting for the straight tip and bomb tactics.

Ayres (peg 32) fished bomb and maggot up to the island over a number of swims for a mixed bag of silvers, boosted by a bonus 10lb carp, to weigh 37.8.

Nearest challenger Craig Evans (peg 36) targeted the nearside bank up to the aerator, alternating waggler and small feeder tactics for his mixed bag of silvers 34.2.

In third place, Paul Gartshore (peg 34) found shelter along the nearside bank with pole and maggot for a mixed bag of silvers 31.5.

Phil Barron (peg 6) used waggler and feeder tactics for his mixed bag of 29.0 for fourth place, ahead of Tony Sheriff, off peg 3, who had 28.11 after he fished waggler and feeder tactics out in front to return a mixed bag of silvers.

Gary Kirkham (peg 11) was one of the few brave anglers to fish pole and maggot up to the rushes for his mixed net of 28.3.

Despite the conditions a very close match unfolded at the weigh in with only 10lbs covering the top six anglers weighing in superb nets of silver fish.

RESULTS: 1st Les Ayres peg 32 – 37.8 2nd Craig Evans peg 36 – 34.2 3rd Paul Gartshore peg 34 – 31.5 4th Phil Barron peg 6 – 29.0 5th Tony Sheriff peg 3 – 28.11 6th Gary Kirkham peg 11 – 28.3.
