Rain ends Bank’s promotion bid

Redditch Editorial 8th Sep, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

PERSHORE sealed successive promotions on Saturday as the abandonment of their game against rivals ASTWOOD BANK clinched runners-up spot in Birmingham League Division Three.

With two matches still to play, the Plums are assured of at least a second placed finish in their first season back in the Birmingham League following their 2015 Worcestershire League Division One title triumph.

Rain in the morning reduced the clash at The Bottoms to a 30 overs per side contest, but only 15 overs were completed before further heavy showers meant the game was abandoned with Pershore 80-3.

With third placed Bank needing victory to maintain their own outside chances of promotion and fourth placed Streetly losing to leaders and likely champions Fordhouses, Pershore could begin the celebrations.

Bank will now look to cap an impressive season of their own by sealing a third placed finish with positive results in their final two encounters, the first of which is Saturday’s visit of Worfield to Sambourne Lane before a final day clash at Streetly.
