Redditch have work to do

A MIXED weekend of results brought two wins and two defeats for the Redditch Entaco sides, as the first team’s poor form continued and they slid into the Worcestershire League Division One relegation zone.

The Kingfishers were beaten by 119 runs at Belbroughton despite at one stage reducing the home side to 83-4.

The hosts were inspired by a fine 115 from William Pardoe who scored at better than run a ball as he put on 157 for the fifth wicket with Geoff Day (55) to help his side set Redditch a victory target of 251.

The pick of the Redditch bowlers were Perry Derrick (1-23 off ten) and Ghulam Moyhuddin (2-32 off 8.4).

Australian overseas player Joe Scarcella suffered an injury and was only able to bowl two balls, which did not help matters for the visitors, whose reply got off to a poor start as wickets tumbled and they were reduced to 42-6.

Scarcella hit a quickfire 23 and Sam Egan enhanced his growing reputation with 23 as well, but Redditch were dismissed for just 131.

On Saturday Redditch entertain Oldswinford desperately seeking a victory against a side two places and seven points above them.

THERE were runs galore in the 2nds’ Division One game at home to Belbroughton as captain Geoff Eley inspired his side with 104 not out to set up an 81-run victory.

The Kingfishers posted 303-4 as Yassar Altaf hit 65, Matt Greenway 52 and Nick Fowkes 39, before in reply Belbroughton struggled against some tight Redditch bowling and finished on 222-8 as Nick Greatbatch led the way with an unbeaten 97.

Kevin Lokenath (3-29) was the top wicket-taker for fifth placed Redditch, who visit rock-bottom Rushwick on Saturday.

West Malvern 1sts secured a convincing nine-wicket victory against Redditch 3rds in Division Five.

Matt Mansfield’s men were bowled out for just 146 as Marlon Lokenath once again proved the pick of the batting in scoring 56.

In reply the visitors completed the job in 25 overs for the loss of one wicket, leaving Redditch with food for thought ahead of Saturday’s visit to Stourbridge.

The 4ths enjoyed their best day of the season in Division Five 2nd XI as they won by 203 runs at West Malvern 2nds.

Redditch batted first and the returning Dan Protherough hit 121, whilst Dean Ottley scored 98 in a total of 342-3.

In reply Redditch had too much experience as the home side were dismissed for just 139.

Stourbridge are the next opposition for the 4ths, who will be on home soil on Saturday.
