REDDITCH continued their preparations for the 2015/16 season with a 6-3 victory at Pershore on Saturday.

These sides will meet again in West Midlands Division One this season and it was the Kingfishers who laid down a marker with an impressive win.

Redditch were quickly off the mark and scored through Harry Capewell but Pershore drew level before half time, leaving Redditch captain Pete Dawson feeling that his team could be playing a lot better.

In the second half Redditch played some better hockey and showed some of the form that saw them win their Summer League earlier this year.

There were strong performances in midfield from Andy Billingham, Jacob Beard, Jonny Styzaker and Will Moss and their work contributed to both Capewell and Dan Waite bagging hat-tricks.

The highlight of the goals was a well worked series of passes which culminated in Waite sending a cheeky lob over the Pershore keeper.

However, Redditch have plenty to work on defensively as Pershore scored two goals in the second half which should have been avoided.

Redditch 2nds were also victorious as they beat Pershore 2nds 9-2.

REDDITCH Ladies were edged out 1-0 by visitors Bromsgrove in a hard fought encounter.

Throughout the duration of the match both teams were evenly matched and both pressed forward to pressurise each other’s strong defences.

Numerous short corners were called in the first half from unfortunate foot fouls which allowed Bromsgrove to find the back of the net just before the whistle blew for half time.

Redditch did not let their heads drop and continued to attack but they could find an equaliser in the second period.

The ladies play their first Worcestershire League Division One match of the season on Saturday when they entertain Harborne 3rds.

REDDITCH Badgers’ first friendly of the season was at home to Old Halesonians and the visitors secured a 5-1 victory despite a valiant effort from the hosts.

Redditch defenders Luke Barber, Dave Baker, Sean McCaughey and Callum Jones and goalkeeper Sam Mansell tried hard throughout and central midfielders Ethan Reeves and Jack Drysdale impressed.

Redditch fielded two brand new players in ten-year-old Billy Brind and Theo Needles who continued to make runs on the wings and some good central play by Reeves was rewarded as he got on the scoresheet.

The Badgers play Hampton-in-Arden this weekend.

Redditch hold junior (six to 16-year-olds) training every Wednesday between 5.30-7pm. Anyone interested in joining should e-mail coach Sharon Smith at sharonsmith1978@gmail.com.

RHC also have a satellite team around the town and are celebrating after receiving monies from Sport England and the County Sport Partnership to provide two after-school hockey clubs.

Both clubs will run for 18 weeks and will be free of charge for any children aged between nine and 19. One runs at Walkwood Middle School on Tuesdays between 3.30-4.30pm and the other is at RSA Academy Arrow Vale on Thursdays.

Head junior coach Sharon Smith said: “We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver hockey in our local area and to gain two school links in Walkwood and RSA Arrow Vale.”

Sharon will be supported by Redditch Hockey Club ambassadors Will Moss, Connor Adams, Demi and Jack Drysdale, Joe and Anna Cardy, Josh Checkley and Jacob Beard.
