Reds hope for a change of luck

REDDITCH United will – weather permitting – return to league action at home to relegation-haunted Bedworth United on Saturday.

Liam McDonald’s side have played just two Southern League Premier Division games in five weeks due to poor weather and, boosted by the arrival of young striker Danico Johnson from Hednesford Town, will be keen to build on their 3-1 home win over Merthyr Town a fortnight ago.

However, the Reds, who have attacker Luke Shearer available after injury but remain without midfielder Simeon Maye due to a foot problem, were again fearing the worse with the inclement weather as the Standard went to press.

Despite their recent frustrations, which reached boiling point for manager McDonald when Saturday’s match at Bideford was postponed after 1pm when the Reds had already arrived in North Devon, United remain in the play-off zone and with games in hand on many of their rivals.

The Reds, who saw Monday’s scheduled Birmingham Senior Cup last 16 tie at home to National North leaders Solihull Moors postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, are due to visit Cirencester Town in the league on Tuesday.
