Reds look for the killer touch

REDDITCH United will aim to replicate their second half performance against Weymouth last time out – but this time with the goals to match their good work – when they visit Hitchin Town on Saturday in the Southern League Premier Division.

The Reds recovered from conceding a ninth goal to level through the talismanic Jamey Osborne in first half injury time against the Terras at the Valley on Saturday but, despite a dominant second half performance in which defender Jim Mutton hit the woodwork and the lively Jamie Molyneux and substitute Luke Shearer both spurned good chances after breaching the visitors’ rearguard, Liam McDonald’s men had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

However, the positives of the performance and result against the high-flying visitors were overshadowed by a nasty knee injury sustained by summer recruit Jamie Ashmore.

The versatile Ashmore, playing at right back, was injured in the 39th minute and there was a 20-minute break in play whilst an ambulance was called to take Ashmore to hospital with what looked a serious injury and must make further involvement in the team this season a major doubt.

Having ended a two-match losing sequence with a hard earned point, the eighth placed Reds now face a Hitchin side two places and a point behind them with a game in hand before returning to the Valley on Monday for the return fixture with Slough Town, where United prevailed 2-0 in September.
