REDDITCH Swimming Club star Issy Griffiths won a hat-trick of medals at the British Summer Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

The 15-year-old, who also represents City of Birmingham SC, was in fine form as she rose to the challenge to cap a fine season.

Never one to choose the easier events, Griffiths took gold in the 800m freestyle (8:46.74), silver in the 400m individual medley (4:56.04) and bronze in the 400m freestyle (4:16.53).

This rounded off a brilliant season for Griffiths, who claimed no fewer than five new West Midland Junior records and competed for an England Junior team in an international meet in Luxembourg.

Seventeen-year-old Braiden Hartles, another Redditch SC/City of Birmingham swimmer, swam the 50m freestyle at the British Summer Championships and recorded a personal best time of 24.21 seconds.

Also competing in Sheffield, at the ASA Summer Nationals, were Redditch swimmers Paul Wilkes (31) and Hollie Richmond (13) and both had a very successful meet.

Wilkes achieved a personal best time of 56.75 seconds to finish sixth in the final of the 100m butterfly (19/over age group) whilst Richmond, who also trains with City of Birmingham, was competing at her first National championships.

She put in two excellent performances in the 50m and 100m backstroke events (12/13 years age group) to finish 16th in both, with times of 33.14 and 1:10.81 respectively.

Redditch SC head coach Chris Britt said: “It is fantastic to see our swimmers performing so well at the end of another hard season.

“Issy, Braiden, Paul and Hollie have all worked so hard to reach the level they are now competing at, against the best in the UK, and they fully deserve their successes.”
