T20 action set to get underway

Redditch Editorial 15th May, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE EAST Worcestershire T20 Cricket League begins on Wednesday and this year will see a change in format with each club facing each other before the top two teams in the group meet each other in the final at Bromsgrove Cricket Club on July 10.

Last year was a fantastic competition and it ended with Bromsgrove edging out Barnt Green in a thrilling final.

The competition allows clubs to develop younger players by putting them into a team environment of playing with some of the best players around the North East Worcestershire area.

This year’s event will be played on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the next seven weeks and the opening round of fixtures will see Redditch host Feckenham, Bromsgrove entertain Droitwich and Astwood Bank host Barnt Green.

All clubs welcome people who wish to watch the action. Bars will be open and the games start at 6.30pm.

MEANWHILE, the Worcestershire Cricket League has launched a fixture bureau for local clubs in a bid to ensure they are never short of action.

With in excess of 21,000 people playing cricket in Worcestershire alone, it is inevitable that from time to time teams struggle to get 11 players out on the field.

As a result, Worcestershire Cricket aims to help by providing a fixture bureau for last minute cancellations of fixtures for all affiliated clubs.

It will provide clubs with an opportunity to tell others if they have a cancelled game, which can be posted on the website and provides everyone with an opportunity to keep their fix of cricket for the week.

This scheme aims to support the 104 affiliated clubs and help 350-plus senior teams find fixtures for last minute cancellations, therefore helping clubs to save money and keeping players together when they have been let down.

The bureau is now up and running and more details can be found at www.thewcb.org.uk/index.php/fixture-bureau.
