Tim shines as White Hart defeat King George

WHITE Hart’s B team were impressive home winners over King George V in Division Three of the Heart of England League, with the highlight being an amazing 21-18 victory for Tim Hollingshead over National Bowls finalist Ross Dunkley.

At 6-0 down defeat looked more than likely but Tim showed impressive accuracy to hold on to a lead he had established towards the latter stages of the game.

Other winners were captain Norman Batchelor (21-9), Brian Chatterley (21-4), Tony Sugden (21-9) and John Meredith (21-20), giving the Redditch team 15 points and fourth place in the table, 12 points behind leaders Warstock.

The A team were defeated 150-120 at Division Two leaders Stoke Prior A where their only two winners were Paul Matthews and Ray Richards, both 21-12. They are currently third in the table, 18 points behind their local rivals.




The HOE over 60s A team were comfortable 119-84 home winners over Green Man A in Division One and had five winning players in a fine team performance.

Norman Batchelor (21-8), Ray Richards (21-10), Ken Brown (21-17), Steve Turner (21-13) and captain Mike Estell (21-15) all triumphed and they now sit fifth in a division currently dominated by Moseley CC A.


The B team were narrow 113-105 losers at Division Three table-toppers Baldwin where only Brian Chatterley (21-16) and Ian Humphreys (21-13) were White Hart winners.

However, the Redditch club stay in second position and well in the promotion hunt.

In the prestigious Warwickshire and Worcestershire Saturday League White Hart kept their noses out of the Premier Division Five relegation places thanks to a fine home 224-192 win over Romsley & Hunnington.

The hosts boasted nine individual winners in the process. Captain Tony Sugden led by example in winning 21-18 and was well supported by Mike Estell (21-9), Mick Perrins (21-16), Gill Croft (21-16), Ian Humphreys (21-17), Sue Sugden (21-10), Ken Brown (21-11), Dave Edwards (21-16) and Stan Pritchard (21-15).

In the Northfield & District Sid Stephens Rose Bowl, White Hart A booked their second round place with an emphatic 172-119 aggregate victory over British Oak B as captain Mick Perrins showed the way by winning his game 21-7.

He was well supported by Ian Humphreys (21-2), Paul Matthews (21-9), Ray Richards (21-9), Stan Pritchard (21-8), Sue Sugden (21-11) and Mike Estell (21-14).

The B team remained in the Division Four promotion hunt with a nail-biting 142-140 win at Romsley & Hunnington.

Their four winners were Dave Edwards (21-9), Tom Hawkes (21-12), Neil Laxton (21-18) and Gill Croft (21-19), while Kirk Wright managed 14 shots in the last match on the green to get Hart over the line.

In the SW Birmingham Tuesday League, White Hart B easily defeated Division Four leaders British Oak B 119-76 on home soil.

Captain Kate Broome comfortably won 21-6 and received more than adequate support from Sue Sugden (21-10), Mick Perrins (21-12), Anne Batchelor (21-13) and Sheila Humphreys (21-14) to keep the team near the top of the league.
