REDDITCH motorcycle racer Trystan Finocchiaro cemented seventh place in the Aprilia Challenge British Championship despite an unlucky sequence of events hindering his progress at Lincolnshire’s famous Cadwell Park.

No stranger to Cadwell’s challenges, the town rider followed up top three test times on Friday with a high-speed performance in race one, only to be denied a podium position after a three-bike sliding crash on lap eight of eight put him out of the race.

With his bike repaired for race two, Finocchiaro blasted his Aprilia RRV 450 to fifth position as wheel-to-wheel racing saw the first six riders finish within two seconds of P1.

After suffering inter-race, set up and mechanical problems, Finocchiaro then completed a robust ride to finish fifth in Sunday’s third race.

However, the IN Competition rider saved his best for the last race when, after the teen had struggled all weekend to find a set-up that suited the long cambered curves and elevations of Cadwell Park, he finally found a good set-up from which he was confident he could secure a podium position.

Regrettably, he was forced to race with no clutch lever after a collision with another rider on the first lap, limiting his performance.

Nonetheless, he still managed to replicate his best time of the weekend without the use of clutch and produced a very strong first sector as this was the only sector in which the clutch was not needed.

This displays how much easier the bike was to ride after the team had sorted out the set-up issues and begs the question what could he have done with a clutch?

The youngster is determined to answer this in style in the fifth round at Oulton Park in Cheshire on the opening weekend July as he bids to move towards a top three position with five rounds remaining.
