A NEW ‘Boozy Book Club’ in Alcester created to showcase independent authors has become a sell-out success.
The book club was scheduled to be hosted once a month at The Lounge at 26 on Alcester High Street with the first book club penciled in for March 30.
Tickets for the event sold out in less than seven hours and event organisers had to schedule an additional date for March 23.
The book club now has a long waiting list and a third club is in the process of being set up for the venue.
The event hosted by book lover Jessica Sweetingham from local marketing company, Talking Tortoise, has already secured another venue in Southampton and her company has been flooded with interest from new venues and other authors who wish to be featured.
During the inaugural book club, ticket holders received a free copy of Alcester author John Crawshaw’s romance novel ‘The Swing’.
John was diagnosed with dyslexia and had never read a novel before he published his first one in 2021.
He confessed during the first book club event that to this day he still completes a celebratory fist wave after completing one thousand words in his new novels.
Jessica Sweetingham said: “Our first book club was an incredible success, and the feedback was phenomenal.
“Everybody praised the venue as being perfect for the event, John gave an incredible insight into his life as an author and ticket holders praised the initiative as a real community asset for Alcester.
“We’re on a real high and can’t wait to do it all again next week and then welcome a new author to the event in April.’’
Tickets for the next book club event go on sale next week.
