REDDITCH Safer Neighbourhood team have issued a reminder to dog owners to keep their pets under control after a child was attacked.
The victim was walking her dog at Brocklhill Park last weekend when another dog appeared and lunged at her dog.
The victim tried to protect her dog and in the scuffle was injured.
No owner has been identified and dog was seized by Police.
PCSO Poole said in a post on Facebook that owners need to be aware of the law when taking their dogs into public spaces.
He said: “It is against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control anywhere such as: in a public place, in a private place and in the owners home.
“The law applies to all dogs regardless of breed and the law applies to the person who is in charge of the dog, not just the dog owner.”
The law also states that a dog is considered dangerously out of control if it injures someone or makes someone reasonably worried that it might injure them.
Dog walkers and owners have a responsibility to ensure that no one should ever feel afraid or worried for their safety if they come into contact with your dog.
PCSO Poole added: “Dog owners also must understand their dog’s temperament.
“If you are ever unsure or if your dogs behaviour is unpredictable, put your dog on a lead at all times and consider a muzzle.
“We understand that owners need to take dogs out for exercise but these steps need to be taken if your dog has exhibited signs of being aggressive to other dogs or people.”
If people have concerns about a dangerous or out of control dog it can be reported to West Mercia Police or the Redditch Borough council’s dog warden service.
He added: “The local Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be out and about to reassure people.
“We still want the public to enjoy the local parks and greenery that Redditch has to offer and not for them to feel that they aren’t safe enough to go there.”
