Redditch residents urged to make sure they're ID OK for polling day

ELECTORS in Redditch borough and Stratford district are being reminded that the time to apply for free voter ID ahead of the May elections is running out.

For the first time, voters will need to show a photo ID to receive their ballot paper at the local elections on May 4.

Those without an accepted type of ID can apply online for a Voter Authority Certificate at gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate – the deadline to apply is Tuesday April 25.

Applicants must be registered to vote and will need to provide their date of birth, National Insurance number and a photograph.

Anyone who already has an accepted form of ID does not need to apply.

Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area or Commonwealth passport, a UK or EEA driver’s licence, and some concessionary travel passes such as an older person’s bus pass or an Oyster 60 plus card.

Voters can use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

The requirement to show photo ID was introduced by the UK Government’s Elections Act passed last year.

Visit www.redditchbc.gov.uk/elections or call 01527 881421 for more on voter ID.

Alcester and Studley residents can visit stratford.gov.uk/council-democracy/voter-id-at-polling-stations.cfm for more.
