REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has welcomed Government plans to ban so-called zombie knives.
The fresh crackdown will see the Government give greater powers to the police to seize and destroy these weapons.
Under the plans, these so-called ‘Rambo’ and ‘zombie style’ knives will no longer be sold online or in shops.
And anyone who sells a dangerous knife to a child could face up to two years in prison.
Working with police Insp Rich Field and anti-knife campaigner Pete Martin as part of her work to tackle knife crime in Redditch, the town’s MP lobbied Home Office Ministers to ban these weapons.
Police officer numbers are at their highest level in West Mercia Police’s history which is also helping to keep Redditch’s streets safe.
Mrs Maclean said: “Earlier this year I met with our local policing inspector Rich Field and anti-knife campaigner Pete Martin to discuss what more can be done to tackle knife crime in Redditch.
“We all agreed that we need to get zombie knives off our streets, so I’m pleased to see the Government is planning to give police greater powers to seize and destroy these weapons.
“This fresh crackdown on knife crime will make our communities safer and ensure our town remains a safe place to live.”
