NEW affordable homes are to be built on the site of a disused church in Redditch.
Redditch Borough Council approved the building of 25 homes after St Gregory’s Church in Winyates fell into a state of disrepair.
The Church closed its doors in 2005 and the site has become a magnet for antisocial behaviour.
In 2014 an ‘Untidy Land Notice’ was served to the then owners to improve the state of the building.
The new builds, by GreenSquareAccord, will comprise of five two-bedroom homes, 18 three-bedroom homes and two four-bedroom homes.
A total of 12 homes will be for social rent while 13 units will be under shared ownership.
Carl Taylor, Assistant Director of New Business and Growth, at GreenSquareAccord said: “We were pleased to hear that Redditch Borough Council has approved our plans to redevelop the land where St Gregory’s Church currently sits.
“This is a positive step as we move forwards and look to provide 25 much-needed affordable homes in Redditch.”
Mike Doolan Sales & Partnerships Manager for LoCaL Homes said: “We are really pleased to be involved in this project, delivering thermally efficient homes for the community of Redditch.
“The occupiers of these new affordable homes will benefit from many of the features of living in a modern, thermally efficient home.
“The fabric of the homes will be constructed from sustainable, low carbon materials that will ultimately lower overall energy demand which will result in lower heating bills.”
