THE LODGE Park community are celebrating after finally getting a much-needed crossing installed outside Oak Hill First School.
A group of residents approached borough councillor Tim Pearman and county council-lor Emma Marshall after a series of near misses occurred outside the school.
A meeting was called in March of last year with school, police and community representatives and councillors attending to discuss the best steps to be taken to improve safety outside the first school.
Coun Emma Marshall secured funding and it was installed during the Easter holidays.
She said: “Safety for students is so important and this zebra crossing isn’t the end of the story here.
“We now have to raise awareness that this crossing is here and that drivers must not park on the double yellows or the zigzags which would obstruct the view of the crossing.
“Coun Pearman and I will continue working with the community, school, police and enforcement officers to further improve safety outside the school.”
Sally Wood, local resident and grandmother of a student said: “We have been calling for a crossing here since my daughter was a student, and now my granddaughter is at Oak Hill.
“This crossing means the world to us.”
