A PROJECT aiming to protect children from criminal exploitation has launched in Alcester.
The project, called Working for Marcus aims to support schools, teachers, parents and students by using well researched drama plus discussion to help people recognise and respond to exploitation and know where to go for help and support.
Children and young people may be criminally exploited in many ways including child sexual exploitation, trafficking, gang and knife crime.
It can happen to anyone in any part of the UK; it is against the law and a form of child abuse.
Alcester Town Council has teamed up with Alcester Youth Project and Loudmouth to offer training in all three secondary schools in Alcester for teachers and pupils.
A separate session has also been set up for parents, community members and anyone interested in finding out more.
Using funding provided from the pffice of the Police and Crime Commissioner, the training will take place over the next 12 months, with the session for parents delivered on September 13 at The Greig Hall.
Vanessa Lowe, Town Clerk said: “This is a very important issue and the Town Council is keen to support our schools and our whole community in educating them about the dangers of exploitation, how to spot it and, most importantly, what to do if you are worried about a young person.”
Anyone interested in the training or finding out more should contact Wendy Sherwood, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, Alcester Town Council on 01789 766084.
