"We will continue to grow our economy by supporting businesses." - Rachel Maclean's Westminster diary

THERE has been some really positive economic news recently, and I think it’s worth focusing on it given how much attention our economy received when it was not looking so good.

And that positive news I’m talking about are major upgrades to the UK’s growth prospects by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), demonstrating our economy is on the right track.

The UK economy is set to grow this year and avoid recession after a 0.7 per cent upgrade compared with April’s forecast and inflation is set to fall to around five per cent by the end of the year.

The IMF also confirmed the UK’s long-term growth prospects are stronger than Germany, France, and Italy’s.

I must politely say to the gloomsters and those who regularly talk down our country that you have got it wrong once again.

You may be reading this and asking yourself what this means for you. By growing our economy, what it means is more jobs and more funding for our public services like the NHS.

And we will continue to grow our economy by supporting businesses. I am unashamedly pro-business.

It’s businesses which create jobs and generate billions in taxes to fund our public services which we all rely on.

I’m not complacent, and I know there is still more to do to grow our economy, create jobs, and drive down inflation, but I’m sure we can all welcome the fact our economy is heading in the right direction.
