RESIDENTS at Millcroft care home in Redditch have been trying their hand at a new game, in partnership with Worcestershire Cricket, called ‘Clock Cricket’.
Clock Cricket is a form of seated cricket, funded by Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, which encourages people to stay active with gentle and engaging exercise.
90-year-old Dorothy Morris had a blast with her fellow team members and enjoyed the new spin on the centuries old game.
She said: “I didn’t think cricket would be my thing, but this version was really good, I liked it very much and I look forward to playing again next week.”
Elsa-Marie Evans, the community development manager at Worcestershire Cricket, said: “This form of seated cricket is designed improve participants’ physical health, hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and body strength.
“Participants will develop their cognitive health through counting scores, remembering scoring zones and learning rules of the game, which will also aid cognitive recall.”
The Home Manager at Millcroft, Lyndsay Sard, said: “It was ‘great to see all the residents getting involved and having a good time.
“We’re always looking for new and exciting activities for our residents, and we love to give them the opportunity to explore new hobbies and interests.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Worcestershire Cricket, and we’ve loved watching our residents have a laugh together and build friendships even further.”
