A REDDITCH park has received a coveted Green Flag Award.

Morton Stanley Park, which has recently seen new toilets and a café installed, has joined a record number of facilities which have picked up this international mark for quality this year.

Redditch Borough Coun Joanne Beecham, whose portfolio covers Parks, said: “Our parks and open spaces are amazing and this award recognises this.

“Thanks to all our workers and volunteers who work hard to keep them in tip top condition for our residents to enjoy.”

The Green Flag Award standard is an international quality mark for parks and green spaces that meet the needs of the community, are well maintained, safe and provide people with the opportunity to lead healthy lifestyles.

Redditch Borough Council submitted the application for Morton Stanley to be considered for Green Flag Status.

Council Leader Coun Matt Dormer added: “We know our parks are important to our residents which is why we continually invest in them, providing new, exciting and accessible play options, enhancing the facilities where possible.

“We also strive to keep them well-maintained so our residents and visitors have somewhere to come to relax, play and exercise. I am delighted our efforts have been recognised.”

This year saw a record number of parks achieve the high Green Flag standard with 2,216 clinching the award which was launched 27 years ago by the Keep Britain tidy charity.

Once the flag has been received the Council will hold a ceremony to raise it, pride of place in the award-winning Morton Stanley Park.
