Create a memorial stone at Church Hill funday

Redditch Editorial 18th Aug, 2023   0

CHURCH Hill Big Local Partnership is inviting people to create a memorial stone at its annual fun day.

Running from 11am to 3pm next Sunday, August 27, the event will have all of the usual attractions, including inflatable play centre, Prof Clive Chandler and his Punch and Judy Show, face painting and more.

Organisers will be supplying stones for children and adults to paint with their memorial message.

These will then be treated with anti-graffiti paint and placed in the new gabion bench at the Memorial Day at Bomford Hill on October 7.

Each year the people of Church Hill pay tribute to those who served in all wars with a touching service at the Bomford Hill Peace Memorial.

The annual service, organised by Church Hill Big Local, is held on the Saturday closest to October 6, the date the last known soldier from the Parish of Beoley died while serving in the First World War.

Others from the parish also died in October while serving during the conflict.

Church Hill Big Local charity trustee Hayley Price said: “We’re so grateful to everyone that attends and gives up their time, it’s fantastic the community turn out to support our service.

“Church Hill has always recognised how hugely important it is we remember those who served and I think that is what is so special about the memorial stones.”
