Hanbury First School pupils treated to storytime during acclaimed author's visit

PUPILS from Hanbury CE First School enjoyed a visit from internationally acclaimed author Petr Horcek.

Petr treated them to a whole morning of stories. And he told them how he had always wanted to be an illustrator, preferring to look at the pictures inside books rather than to read them.

He would listen to the story or watch a film and then fill up his sketchbook with pictures and images from the story.

He showed the children his amazing artwork, including some of the first pictures he drew.

And he demonstrated how he drew his ‘awesome animals’ in the books he published.

Hanbury First School’s reading lead Verity Mills said: “We are so grateful to Petr for coming to see ue.

“He had us all engaged for over an hour with his tales of his travels and his funny grandma.

“There’s nothing like meeting a published author to inspire us all to read, write and create wonderful artwork and Petr certainly did that.”

After listening to him read a number of his books including his latest title ‘The Perfect Present’, some of his biggest fans were thrilled to meet the man himself afterwards.

Mrs Mills added: “Petr spent some extra time with the children who had brought their own books in for him to sign.

“It’s a day they – and the rest of the school – will remember for years to come.”
