Deportation of foreign criminals is Redditch MP’s focus

REDDITCH MP, Rachel Maclean has secured a Parliamentary debate on deportation of ‘foreign criminals’.

Mrs Maclean said she will use her debate to question the Government on the work it is doing on deportation.

She said: “The first duty of any Government is to keep its people safe, and deporting foreign criminals who should not be in our country is a vital function of that responsibility.

“However, the Legal Aid brigade, charities and Labour MPs, including the Labour leader himself, have shamefully campaigned to prevent foreign thugs from being deported.

“So, I’ve secured this debate to question ministers on the work they are doing to deport these criminals to keep our streets and our country safe in the face of unrelenting challenges from those who seek to thwart this work.

“My constituents consistently tell me that immigration is a top concern for them. It is for me too which is why I’m doing everything I can as your MP to support measures to get foreign criminals out of our country and to strengthen our borders.”

Redditch Borough Council’s Labour leader, Councillor Joe Baker, said: “At the end of the day, we all have a legal obligation to keep citizens in the UK safe from harm.

“Any criminals who come into our country need to be dealt with in the appropriate manner – whether through our legal system or that of the country they have come from.

“It looks like Rachel Maclean is having a knee-jerk reaction in a bid to grab the headlines.

“Each case needs to be looked at on an individual basis and appropriate action taken.”

The debate is taking place February 7 in Westminster Hall.
