Redditch friends to go head-to-head in 60m dash for charity after 'who is fastest' joke gains pace

TWO REDDITCH men who friends say ‘are not the fittest they have been’ will go head-to-head in a 60-metre dash this evening in memory of a friend and to raise funds for a good cause.

Stuart Dyson and Craig Blackford were at the funeral wake of Joe Ritchie from Studley – a friend of theirs – who passed away from Alzheimer’s.

After jokey discussions about who was the fastest, the pair challenged each other to the race which will take place on The Abbey Stadium track at 6pm this evening (Friday).

And the pair have turned it into a fund-raiser for the Alzheimer’s Society – so far friends and family have donated £400 and it is hoped the total will be boosted even more tonight trackside when they all turn up to cheer them on.

Nicky Dyson, who contacted the Standard, said: “They are both 54 and overweight and were really goading each other about who was the fastest. Everyone was having a good laugh about it.

“It has kind of spiralled from there and it is great that what started as a joke is raising funds for such a good cause in Joe’s memory.

“Joe would have found it all hilarious.”
