POLICE have thanked everyone for their patience after a car crashed into a property in Redditch yesterday.
The incident, which involved a red Range Rover smashing into the home in Auxerre Avenue, happened at 1.52pm yesterday (Saturday, July 27). The collision led to a gas leak.
The driver of the range rover was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital due to suffering a suspected medical episode and no other persons were injured in this incident.
West Mecia Police declared a major incident and worked closely with a range of partners including Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service, Cadent, Worcestershire Highways and Redditch Borough Council to resolve the issues.
Nationally agreed protocols were implemented which included a 100-metre cordon and the evacuation of local residents within the cordon. The gas leak has now been resolved meaning that the major incident has rescinded.
Insp Richard Field from Redditch Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), said “I would like to thank the local residents for their patience while we resolved this incident with our partners.
“The safety of the local residents was of our paramount concern, which led to a cordon being put in place.
“I would like to record my thanks to the attending emergency services and the duty officer at Redditch Borough Council for their swift response to this incident to ensure it is resolved with no long-lasting impact to the wider community or road network”
