A CANNABIS farm has been discovered in a former restaurant in the centre of Alcester thanks to a vigilant member of the public.
On Saturday, July 20, police were tipped off with reports of a suspicious situation in Market Place, a busy pedestrian thoroughfare from High Street to Waitrose and the town car park.
When PC Rob Davies of Alcester Police investigated the premises he found a total of 810 cannabis plants growing in the basement.
Following this discovery, more officers attended and the plants were removed and destroyed. National Grid also came to check the electricity supply.

Officers described the raid as a “significant step in keeping our community safe and drug-free”.
For several decades a popular Indian restaurant, The Cellar operated from the site and more recently it was home to the Italian-themed Amore, though this had been closed for a number of months.
A notice on the building had indicated it would soon be reopening as a Greek eating place.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Warwickshire Police on 101 citing incident 149 of July 20.
