CHAMPIONSHIPS in poleclimbing and chainsaw carving are just some of the highlights of the UK’s largest timber show set to take place in Alcester.
The APF Show is the country’s largest woodland, tree and timber show and will be held on Ragley Estate from September 19 to September 21.
And the event looks to be anything but wooden, with the World Poleclimbing Championship, the European Chainsaw Carving Championship and the UK Open Tree Climbing Championship all set to take place over the three days, as well as the British Open Fencing and World Log to Leg Race competitions.
The pole climbers will race head to head up two huge 100 foot Douglas Fir poles with the top climbers aiming to do this in less than ten seconds.
Held once every two years, the current world poleclimbing champion, Dan Whelan, who won in 2022 with a time of 9.02 seconds, will defend his title but faces stiff competition from several others all capable of sub 10 second times. Emma Cakebread will seek to retain the ladies world title. Heats will be running throughout the first two days of the show with the finals on Saturday afternoon.
There will also be over 300 exhibitors including 25 craftspeople in the woodlands crafts area demonstrating skills including clog making, willow weaving and pole lathe turning.
